What is the difference between headphones and earbuds?
Headphones sit on or over your ears and are usually more comfortable for long listening, with bigger batteries and fuller sound. Earbuds sit inside the ear, are far more portable and better suited to exercise and commuting, but have smaller batteries and rely on a good fit for sound and noise isolation.
| Headphones | Earbuds | |
|---|---|---|
| Portability | Bulkier; foldable models help | Pocket-sized with case |
| Comfort for long sessions | Usually better | Depends on ear-tip fit |
| Battery | Often 20 to 60+ hours | Often 4 to 10 hours per charge, more with case |

Which should you choose?
Choose headphones for home, office and long flights. Choose earbuds for the gym, running, commuting and everyday carry. Many people own both.
