How to choose a Bluetooth speaker

  • Size and sound: larger speakers generally produce fuller bass and higher volume; compact speakers are easier to carry.
  • Battery life: compare quoted playback hours at moderate volume.
  • Water resistance: choose IPX5 or higher for the garden, beach or bathroom; IP67 means dust-tight and protected against temporary immersion.
  • Connectivity: check Bluetooth version, range and whether you can pair two speakers for stereo.

How far does a Bluetooth speaker reach?

Most Bluetooth speakers work reliably up to around 10 metres from the connected device, with less range through walls. Newer Bluetooth versions can offer longer range in open space.

Can I connect a Bluetooth speaker to a TV or laptop?

Yes, if the TV or laptop supports Bluetooth audio. Pair the speaker from the device’s Bluetooth or sound settings. Some speakers also include a 3.5 mm AUX input for wired connections.

Are Bluetooth speakers waterproof?

Only models with an appropriate IP rating are. IPX4 protects against splashes, while IPX7 and IP67 protect against temporary immersion in water. Check the rating on each product page.
